Enso is an iPad/iOS app that turns handwritten diagrams and notes into structured Markdown specs and syncs them to your own Git repository and/or Enso's cloud sync. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Apple or email, we receive and store your email address and a unique user identifier. With Sign in with Apple's private relay, we receive only the relay address.
- Content you create. Notes, canvases, diagrams, and links you make. When cloud sync is on (the default for signed-in users — you can turn it off anytime in Settings), this content is stored on our servers so it can sync across your devices. With sync off, your content stays on your device.
- Connected services (optional). If you connect GitHub, we store an access token and read/write the repositories you choose so your content can sync to your repo.
- Handwriting / diagram processing. When you convert handwriting or a diagram to text, recognition runs on your device first; if it needs help, the relevant image is sent through our backend to our AI provider (OpenAI) to perform optical character recognition. We do not use this content to train models.
- Usage and diagnostics. If you opt in to analytics, we use PostHog to collect product-analytics and basic diagnostic events (for example, feature usage and errors), associated with your user identifier, to understand and improve the app. Analytics is off until you opt in.
We do not use your data to track you across other companies' apps or websites, and we do not serve advertising.
How we use information
- Provide and sync the app's core functionality.
- Authenticate you and protect your account.
- Process handwriting/diagrams into structured text at your request.
- Understand usage and fix problems to improve the product.
How information is shared
We share data only with service providers that process it on our behalf:
- Supabase — authentication and database storage
- PostHog — product analytics and diagnostics
- Vercel — backend/API hosting
- Apple — Sign in with Apple
- GitHub — optional repository sync (only if you connect it)
- OpenAI — handwriting/diagram OCR
We do not sell your personal information.
Data retention and deletion
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deleting your account permanently removes your account record, subscription data, synced canvases and note content, and analytics identifiers associated with your account. Backups and provider logs may persist for a limited period before expiring. Content you synced to your own GitHub repository is controlled by you and is not removed by account deletion.
Security
We use industry-standard measures (encryption in transit via TLS, scoped access tokens). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Children
Enso is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region) and we do not knowingly collect their data.
International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, by the providers listed above.
Your rights
Depending on your region, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. You can exercise deletion in-app; for other requests contact us at privacy@ensocanvas.com.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by an updated effective date and, where appropriate, in-app notice.
